Translation

Text translation is a major focus at Velior. Since foundation, translation has been at the core of our business model and supported additional service range such as copywriting or DTP.

Workflow

Velior's Project Manager receives a text for translation, preferably by email, estimates it and prepares a quote including price, schedule, and other details. Upon customer's confirmation, we translate the text by the agreed deadline. We support virtually any text format and deliver translation in the same layout, fully retaining original formatting.

Translation Features

Velior supports most of the world languages, specialising in English, German and French into Russian or Ukrainian combinations. We use mainly professional native-speaking translators where practically feasible. In very difficult subject matter scenarios, Velior arranges consulting between translator and experienced specialist for correct terminology choice and concept clarification.

Managed Translation Memory Services

For direct customers, Velior offers free of charge translation memory (TM) maintenance and TM-based quoting. For agencies, this service is subject to additional payment. Such translation memory holds all translations completed for a given customer. The translation memory technology enables great benefits such as unified style and terminology in all translation projects for a given customer, or discounts for any matches against existing memory translations in the future projects. When quoting, Velior applies translation memory technology by default,* i.e. you do not have to do any maintenance or calculation. Upon request, we provide the translation memory to the customer, e.g. to pass on to another supplier.

Quote

For direct customers, Velior calculates the price based on the source word count according to SDL Trados 2006 software analysis. For agencies, our quote is based on the source word count advised by the agency. Velior provides discounts on internal repetitions, and, with the long-term projects, partial (fuzzy) matches against translation memory. Upon customer's request, we can calculate the price in characters, instead of words, although this is not recommended due to higher cost and lower efficiency.

Quality and Warranty

Each text we translate undergoes internal Quality Assurance (QA). The translation QA includes review by the same translator, basic QA by reviewer, and proofreading. This process is designed to deliver complete professional translation. Velior provides a lifetime product warranty: we fix any defects quickly and free of charge.

Additional Translation Quality Assurance

Due to human error, the translation and review by the same translator typically provide sufficient, but not top quality. To ensure top quality, Velior may recommend additional QA, typically referred to as “independent review.” In this scenario, we provide a full review by independent, second linguist, which eliminates human error (please see Review section). To achieve objectivity of QA, Velior ensures that such second linguist is separated from original translator.

Velior's translation price list is simplified and consistent. For main language combinations, we offer a unified price. This price does not depend on translation combination and typically does not depend on the source subject matter. The customer can easily calculate the translation cost themselves.

For orders starting from around 2,000 words of source text, Velior typically provides a range of free services. These include, but not limited to, DTP of translation and reasonably small updates/changes to source.
